I have read on 40G Ethernet that CFP and QSFP+ transceiver modules are available in the market for the 40G line side connectivity. As far as I could understand, CFP is bulky, power dissipation is much, cost is high but having re-timing functionality in the module internally. Also they are available in dual mode [Ethernet + OTN] while QSFP+ size is small, power dissipation is not much, cost is less but it does not have re-timing functionality in the module and they are available in Ethernet only [no OTN option]. I want to know where is market going ahead for 40G. Is it with CFP or with QSFP+?
